It has been a long-held dream of mine to build my own business from the ground up--not just to control my own destiny, but to show my son (Nico) and future grandchildren that anything is possible when you work hard, overcome obstacles, and constantly strive to better yourself.
With the help of my husband, Walter, and support of several dear friends and family, that dream finally became a reality for me in September of 2018, when I officially registered Nico Energy Services as a limited liability corporation in the great state of Texas.
For over 10 years I scrimped and saved for the day when I could take that leap of faith and finally put all the knowledge that I had gained, while working as an outside sales representative for Oil & Gas companies, to use for myself. There was probably no greater motivation than feeling undervalued and unappreciated by a company that I applied myself to 100%, often at the expense of my family. During this time I was a manager who also performed outside sales and dispatch duties while driving over 6,000 miles a month. These many miles of driving gave me plenty of time to think about all the things I would do differently when I owned my own business.
Being a woman in the Oil & Gas Industry 10 years ago was still somewhat of a novelty, and although I got lots of attention, it was a constant struggle to prove that I was a knowledgeable professional who could be trusted in this once male dominated industry.
Today I am proud to say that all those whistles and cat calls from rough necks on drilling rigs and being under appreciated by my employers only made me stronger and gave me the determination I needed to overcome the many obstacles in my path.
We have survived the 2020 downturn in the Oil & Gas Industry along with the COVID Pandemic, and today we are, once again, a thriving and growing enterprise with our eyes firmly focused on helping our customers reduce downtime and drill successful wells.
